Visa’s fourth-quarter net income rose to $6 billion as spending on travel, shopping and dining lifted activity across the company’s payments network. The card network said payments volume, a measure of transactions processed through Visa, increased 9% from a year earlier in the quarter ended Sept. 30.
The results provide a new snapshot of consumer and business spending as Visa closed its fiscal 2026 year. The company said customers continued to use Visa cards for everyday purchases and travel. A strong labor market and wage growth also supported spending, according to the report.
Travel and international purchases grow
Visa reported particularly strong activity involving transactions that cross national borders. Cross-border volume excluding transactions within Europe, a measure that includes international travel demand, rose 14% during the quarter. The FIFA World Cup, held from June 11 through July 19, also contributed to activity as visitors traveled to the United States.
| Visa measure | Quarterly result |
|---|---|
| Payments volume | Up 9% |
| Cross-border volume excluding intra-Europe | Up 14% |
| Net revenue | $12.1 billion, up 13% |
| Net income | $6 billion |
Visa’s quarterly net income compared with $5.1 billion a year earlier. Earnings increased to $3.19 per share, from $2.62 per share in the same quarter of the prior year. Net revenue rose 13% to $12.1 billion.
For the full fiscal year, Visa reported record net revenue of $46 billion. The company processes payments in more than 200 countries and territories and earns fees when transactions move across its network. Because Visa and Mastercard handle payments for billions of people, their transaction volumes are closely watched as indicators of consumer activity.
Visa forecasts more growth
Visa expects fiscal 2027 net revenue to increase by a low-double-digit percentage. It forecasts profit-per-share growth ranging from a low-double-digit percentage to a low-teens percentage. Mastercard, Visa’s closest rival, is scheduled to report its quarterly results later this week.
- Payments volume increased 9% in Visa’s fiscal fourth quarter.
- International transaction volume rose 14% excluding intra-European activity.
- Visa ended fiscal 2026 with $46 billion in net revenue.
