FCRAland cares about your privacy. Our site deliberately collects little data: no advertising profiling, no cookies while you browse, and no sale of personal information. This policy explains in plain terms what information we process, why, and what rights you have, including under California and other U.S. state privacy laws and, for visitors from the European Union and the United Kingdom, under the GDPR.
Who is responsible for your data
The company that publishes the FCRAland site is responsible for your personal information (the "data controller," in GDPR terms):
Data controller
AZ Medias Limited
Office C, 23/F COS Centre, 56 Tsun Yip Street, Kwun Tong, Kowloon, Hong Kong

What information we process
We limit collection to what is strictly necessary. The information we process falls into the following categories.
- Technical browsing data. As with any website, the servers of our hosting provider automatically record some technical information in their logs, such as the IP address, the date and time of the request, the page requested and the browser type. This information is used for security and for the proper functioning of the service.
- Internal audience statistics. To know which articles are read, we use a measurement tool developed in-house, with no cookies and no third-party services. For each page view it records the address and title of the page, the site you came from (only the domain name, for example a search engine or a social network), the type of device (computer, phone or tablet), the browser and operating system family and, when the network infrastructure provides it, the country. To count unique visitors it computes a pseudonymous identifier from the IP address and the browser, combined with a secret key that changes every day: the IP address is not stored by this tool, and the identifier does not allow you to be recognized from one day to the next. Bot traffic is excluded and the data is viewed only in aggregate form.
- Newsletter. If you subscribe, we record your email address, the date and the page where you subscribed, as well as the IP address and browser used, which serve to prevent abuse and to document the subscription.
- "Follow this article." If you choose to follow an article, we record your email address and the article concerned, so that we can let you know if it is updated or corrected, along with the date, the IP address and the browser for anti-abuse purposes.
- Reader contributions. With the "Write to…" form at the bottom of articles you can send the newsroom a message and, if you wish, a photo. The form asks for neither your name nor your email address. We record the message, the photo, the original file name, the article concerned, the date, the IP address and the browser (the last two for anti-abuse purposes). The photo is re-encoded and renamed, which removes embedded metadata such as EXIF data that can contain a location. We ask you not to include unnecessary personal information in your message, in particular health data or other sensitive categories of data.
- Article ratings. When you answer "Did you like this article?", we record your vote together with a pseudonymous identifier for the day (computed without cookies), the IP address and the browser, so as to count one vote per visitor and limit abuse.
- Messages you send us. If you write to us by email, we process the information you give us, in particular your email address and the content of your message.
Reader data is not passed on to the artificial intelligence services used to write the articles.
How we use information
Each use has a specific purpose.
- Providing and protecting the service (technical logs, anti-abuse measures).
- Measuring audience in aggregate form (internal statistics, article ratings), to understand which content is useful to readers.
- Sending you the newsletter and alerts about the articles you follow. This is based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Reviewing contributions and reports and replying to your messages, to keep our content accurate and to follow up on reader requests, and responding to the requests with which you exercise your rights.
We do not engage in profiling, and we do not make decisions based solely on automated processing that produce legal effects on you.
We do not sell or share your personal information
We do not sell, rent or lease your personal information to third parties for commercial purposes, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Cookies and other tracking tools
While you browse, FCRAland does not place cookies on your device: no technical cookies, no analytics cookies, no profiling or third-party cookies. The site uses no other form of browser storage (such as localStorage), loads its fonts from its own servers and does not embed third-party content such as videos, maps or social network widgets: the sharing buttons are simple links, and no content from the social network is loaded until you click them. For this reason we do not show you a cookie banner.
The statistics tool described above uses no cookies or identifiers stored on your device; the data collected is processed in aggregate form, for the publisher's exclusive use, and is not combined with other information.
The only cookie used by the site is a technical session cookie tied to the administration area reserved for the newsroom: it is set only for people who log in to that area, never while you read the site.
If in the future we introduce cookies or tracking tools other than those described here, we will update this policy before activating them and, where the law requires, ask for your prior consent through a banner. In any case, you can manage or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Who has access to your information
Your information is accessible only to the people authorized by the publisher and to the technical providers that act on its behalf, as service providers (processors). The hosting of the site is entrusted to o2switch, in France:
Hosting provider
SAS o2switch
222-224 Boulevard Gustave Flaubert, 63000 Clermont-Ferrand, France
Phone: +33 (0)4 44 44 60 40
Website: o2switch.fr
Where your information is stored
Information is stored on servers located in France, within the European Union. Because the publisher, AZ Medias Limited, is based in Hong Kong, some processing may involve a transfer of data outside the European Union and the United States. For visitors from the EU and the UK, these transfers take place in compliance with Chapter V of the GDPR, on the basis of appropriate safeguards intended to ensure an appropriate level of protection for your data.
How long we keep information
We keep information for a period proportionate to the purpose pursued.
- Technical server logs: for a limited period, for security and proper functioning, according to the hosting provider's settings.
- Audience statistics: individual page views are deleted automatically once they are more than 180 days old; only aggregate counters remain, such as the number of reads of the articles.
- Newsletter and "Follow this article": until you withdraw your consent or ask for deletion. After you unsubscribe from the newsletter, the address may be kept marked as "unsubscribed," solely to respect your choice, unless you ask for it to be deleted.
- Contributions, ratings and messages: for the time needed to review them and follow up on the request, subject to any legal obligations.
Your privacy rights in the United States
Residents of California and of other states with privacy laws may have the right to know and access the personal information we hold about them, to ask us to delete it, to ask us to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of their personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of; we will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise your rights, or to unsubscribe from the newsletter or from alerts about an article, write to us at newsroom@fcraland.com. We may ask you to prove your identity to protect the confidentiality of the request. We will reply within one month, a period that may be extended where the law allows. For the pseudonymous statistics, which do not allow us to identify you, we may not be able to find the data that concerns you.
Visitors from the EU and the UK
If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the GDPR applies. Our legal bases are: our legitimate interest in running a reliable and secure site and in understanding which content is useful to readers (Article 6(1)(f), for server logs, anti-abuse measures, internal statistics, article ratings, and for reviewing contributions and reports and answering messages); your consent (Article 6(1)(a), for the newsletter and the alerts on articles you follow), which you can withdraw at any time without affecting the lawfulness of the processing carried out before withdrawal; and compliance with a legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c), for the requests with which you exercise your rights).
Under Articles 15 to 22 of the GDPR you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to ask for the restriction of processing, to object to processing based on legitimate interest and to receive the data you gave us in a structured format (portability). You can exercise these rights by writing to newsroom@fcraland.com; we will reply within one month, a period that may be extended in the cases provided for by Article 12 of the GDPR. For the pseudonymous statistics, Article 11 applies. If you believe that the processing of your data violates the law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority: the authority of the EU Member State where you live or work or, in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner's Office.
Children
If you are under 13, do not subscribe to the newsletter and do not send us personal information without the consent of the person who has parental responsibility for you.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against loss, unauthorized access, disclosure or alteration. Because no system is infallible, we work to improve our security measures continuously and we commit to acting promptly in the event of an incident.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be changed, in particular to reflect changes in the law or in our services. Any change will be published on this page, and the last-updated date below applies. We encourage you to review it regularly.
